31 Aug 2015 Jefferson MO to Winchester KY
8:00a start and 6:40p finish (also CDT to EDT). 794 km. Four states - Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky. Three major river crossings - Missouri, Mississippi and Ohio rivers. From Jefferson MO. to Washington adjacent to the Missouri and part of the Lewis and Clark Trail. This area is known as the Missouri Vineland and has German origins. Lots of hills, curves, trees. Very green and a beautiful scenic road to travel. Coffee still a buck or less (at MacDonald's). Premium gas $2.62 per gallon - still a bargain even considering exchange. Temperatures in the high 80s, and with highway speeds at 70mph (including some very large trucks) there are a lot of truck tire treads that have stripped off and remain on the road - dangerous at best, but more so for motorcycle riders. If any of you have desires on opening a restaurant or bbq pit, there is lots of free 'possum' meat here - just pick up off the road and you could have a killer (road kill that is) restaurant operation!
